Darfur 24-Khartoum

A senior leader in the ruling coalition (FFC) said that the United Arab Emirates UAE had offered to mediate the border dispute  between the Sudanese government and Ethiopia  to  divide the  disputed lands of al-Fashaga  in exchange for finding a solution to the crisis with Ethiopia.

The  source told Darfur 24 that the initiative stipulated  Sudan’s army withdrawal to the pre-November location and the division of al-Fashaga by 40% for Sudan, 40% for the Emirates, and 20% for Ethiopian farmers under an investment project to be  run by the UAE.

The Sudanese army redeployed on the Ethiopian border in November 2020, after nearly 20 years.

A member of the Central Council of the ruling coalition, revealed that Minister of Justice Nasreddin Abdul Bari had left the Emirates, leaving the Sudanese delegation that went to listen to the initiative.

However, a government source told “Darfur 24” that the Security and Defense Council should have decided on the matter at its last meeting, but the El Geneina incidents  forced a change of the meeting’s agenda, indicating that the offer is subject to discussion.

The government did not officially disclose the Emirati initiative, but a member of the Sovereign Council; Malik Aqar announced his rejection of the initiative during his remarks at a seminar in Khartoum, saying, “The UAE wants to divide our land and we will not accept that.”
