The head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) has paid a visit to kalma camp and interacted with IDP community leaders.
Responding to questions from IDPs on whether the new mission would be deploying troops in IDP camps, Mr. Volker Perthes said UNITAMS does have big manpower like UNAMID, adding that it would only be deploying 21 police officers throughout the country.
Mr.Perthes said he visited Kalma IDP camp to get accguinted with the situation within the camp.
The senior UN figure added that he will be closely working with the government of Sudan, UN agencies and all stakeholders to build real peace and stability in Sudan.
Kalma community leaders have urged Mr. Volker to provide protection for the camp IDPs, adding that they face continuous threat from time to time..
