The Sudan Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Resources organized a training course for journalists in the five Darfur states on media handling of environmental issues.
Three working papers were presented in the workshop that dealt with the Environment Protection Act for the year 2020 , and the Rio de Janeiro agreements that include issues of desertification, biodiversity and climate change, in addition to a paper on the impacts of climate change on natural resources.
The director of the project for developing national capacities in environmental issues at the Supreme Council for the Environment, Professor Miqdam Sheikh Abdul-Ghani, said that the workshop revealed deficiencies of the institutions concerned with environmental protection in the states of Darfur.
El-Sheikh mentioned that the council will work in the next phase to remove this deficiency, hailing the role that the media can play in addressing environmental issues, reminding partcipants that the council will set up in the coming period other training workshops to qualify journalists to deal with environmental issues.
