Darfur24-El-Daein
Angry youth from Gad Al-Sayed area in East Darfur, stopped Monday, the oil production in the Sufyan field ,80 kilometers east of the city of Al-Daain, the state capital.
The people were protesting against the ignorance of the oil-producing company, Petro Energy, of the demands of the local population.
The youth staged a sit-in for six days in front of the oil field, which contains 35 wells and producing 4 thousand barrels per day, demanding the company to implement international agreements that stipulate positive discrimination for residents of any oil-producing region, such as employment and providing services, in exchange for environmental damage.
Taha Adam Ahmed, one of the sit-in organizers told Darfur 24, that the sit-in would continue until all the legitimate demands of the area’s residents were met.
