The Governor of South Darfur State , Musa Mahdi, has admitted that his state lacks imposition of state authority and rule of law, and that it suffers from the phenomenon of proliferation of weapons of all kinds.
Addressing the first forum of state governors in Khartoum on Thursday, South Darfur governor , Musa Mahdi complained about the complexities of the security situation in Kalma IDP camp.
“The camp has become “a state within a state”, and that dealing with it is surrounded by a lot of sensitivity due to its complex security conditions” Musa Mahdi added.
Kalma IDP camp has been under protection since 2008 by the United Nations and African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), following confrontations between the displaced and government forces, which resulted in the deaths of about 30 displaced persons.
Based on the mission’s exit strategy , UNAMID premises in Kalma IDP camp was handed over to the government of Sudan on March 17 so as to be used for civilian purposes.
Kalma IDPs reject the exit of the UNAMID mission, and demanded the UN Security Council through a sit-in that lasted for two weeks to reverse the decision of UNAMID withdrawal from Darfur
