Darfur 24-El-Geneina
On Tuesday, the Premises of the joint mission of the United Nations and the African Union in Darfur UNAMID in the city of Saraf Amra , North Darfur state was subjected to looting and vandalism by unknown persons.
The UNAMID mission had handed over its premise in Saraf Omra to the Sudanese government last January, in the presence of local leaders, representatives of the Government of North Darfur as well as mission’s personnel.
The handover process comes within the framework of the mission’s withdrawal plan in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2559. Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that the acts of robbery and damage affected all property inside the compound of the UN mission, noting that the vandalism was carried out by local citizens and that the size of the damage is very large.
It’s noting that the two main premises of the mission in the states of South and West Darfur were also subjected to robbery and sabotage after they had been handed over to the Sudanese government
