Darfur24-Nyala
South Darfur Police commissioner, Major General Ali Hasab al-Rasoul said Tuesday that security forces had arrested 26 elements of the former regime, stating that all the detainees were arrested under the emergency law.
Hasab al-Rasoul told Darfur24 that the 26 detainees were charged with planning the acts of sabotage and looting that took place in the Nyala Grand Market during the violent demonstrations at the end of last week.
However, early February, the city of Nyala witnessed demonstrations that lasted for more than a week, before turning into acts of violence and sabotage, resulting in the injury of about 8 policemen and two civilians, and a police car was burned and a number of shops were looted.
The state government accused political parties of being behind the acts of violence and vandalism that occurred in Sudan’s second largest city.
