The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur, UNAMID, announced its readiness to provide a package of humanitarian aid to the displaced people and those affected by the recent tribal violence in El Geneina.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with deputy chairman of the Sovereignty Council on Sunday, the acting head of the mission in Sudan said the mission requested the government to help overcome the difficulties it faces in order to provide aid to those affected by the latest communal fighting in West Darfur.
He stated that the First Deputy Chairman of the Sovereignty Council affirmed the government’s support for the mission’s efforts to provide aid to victims of tribal violence. The mission’s representative Pointed out that the meeting with Lieutenant General Dagalo touched on the mission’s cooperation with local officials in Darfur until the date of its final exit from Sudan on the 30th of next June.
