Over 97,000 people have been displaced from villages in the vicinity of El-Geneina , West Darfur , taking shelter in government institutions in downtown El-Genena.
The new wave of displacement was triggered by the recent tribal fighting between Arabs and non-Arab tribes that left nearly 130 people dead and hundreds others injured.
According to a UNOCHA report, seen by Darfur24, road barriers and suspension of flights hampered delivery of humanitarian aid to nearly 700 thousands IDPs in West Darfur State.
The report also indicated UNICEF’s concern about possible delays in opening schools as they are used as shelters for the displaced people.
