January 7, 2021 -Sudan’s Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Hamdok has decided to freeze the work on the new education Curriculum prepared by the administration of the National Center for Curriculum and Educational Research.
Hamdok said in a press statement that he decided to freeze the work on the currently proposed curriculum due to the controversy it raised.
Hamdouk announced the formation of a national committee that includes educators and specialized scholars, representing all spectrums of opinions and orientations of Sudanese society, to work on preparing new curricula according to well-known scientific principles.
In a statement seen by Darfur 24 Hamdouk said the transitional period that Sudan is going through is a stage for consensus on the foundations for reconstruction of Sudan that can accommodate everyone.
The transitional prime minster added that the social mobility and discussion on the issue of curricula and their development is one of the fruits of the December revolution, which opened the door to the possibility of this positive social democratic dialogue.
The former UN staff said that he had been following up on the controversy that erupted over the issue of the new curriculum proposals, and accordingly he had conducted a series of meetings and consultations in the past period with a wide spectrum of academics, educators, and religious sects.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the issue of curriculum preparation is an issue that needs broad social consensus, and it is a national issue that concerns everyone, so that educational curricula are based on the scientific curriculum that sharpens thinking, develops the capabilities of young people and stimulates creative abilities.
