Chairman of the Sudan Liberation Army, Minni Arku Minawi, has expressed his sorrow over UNSC’s resolution  to end the mandate of the UNAMID mission in Darfur.

The UN Security Council issued a resolution on Tuesday, ending thirteen years of UNAMID mandate in Darfur.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1769, adopted unanimously on July 31, 2007, after reaffirming all resolutions on the situation in Sudan, the Council established the joint African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in an attempt to end the violence in Darfur.

In a statement to Darfur 24, Minawi blamed the transitional government for not taking the matter into consideration, adding that the consultations on  the presence of UNAMID began after the arrival of the Juba peace parties in Khartoum.

Over the past few days, some IDP camps witnessed peaceful demonstrations rejecting the UNSC resolution to withdraw the Hybrid mission from Darfur region.
