December 22, 2020- Citizens of the city of Golo in Central Darfur State organized a protest Tuesday, in front of UNAMID HQs in Golo , rejecting the UN decision to withdraw the peace keeping mission from Darfur region at the end of December 2020.
The UN Security Council decided at the beginning of this year to withdraw the peace-keeping mission (UNAMID) from Darfur at the end of this December, a matter that faced widespread opposition from the displaced in Darfur states.
However, Kalma camp IDPs , 17 kilometers east of the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, ended last week a sit-in that lasted for 14 days, in which they demanded the UN Security Council to reverse its decision aimed at ending mandate UNAMID in Darfur.
The protesters in Golo carried banners calling for international protection, in light of the current conditions in Darfur, saying that the departure of the mission at the present time would create a security vacuum and encourage the militias to commit more crimes against citizens.
