October 18, 2020 (Khartoum)Member of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hassan Al-Taishi, met Sunday in his office at the Republican Palace, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court ICC, Mrs. Fatou Bensouda.
In a press statement, the Public Prosecutor expressed her happiness at her visit to Sudan, which she described as historic, noting that the purpose of the visit is to discuss with the Sudanese authorities issues of the International Criminal Court related to Darfur. Bensouda added that the meeting discussed ways of cooperating with the Sudanese authorities regarding the case of the accused Ali Abdel-Rahman, known as Koshaib, which is now being examined by the court in order to obtain more information and evidence as soon as possible. Ali Kushayb, who is accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in western Sudanee region of Darfur , appeared before ICC on July 15, as the first Sudanese defendant to appear before Hague based court. However, Kushayb who voluntarily handed over himself to ICC face 50 counts, if found guilty, he will be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Bensouda arrived in Sudan on Saturday, accompanied by a delegation from her office.
For hi part, Al-Taishi said that his meeting with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court comes in support of what has been agreed upon in the Juba Agreement regarding justice issues and the appearance of defendants against whom arrest warrants have been issued at the International Criminal Court.
In the same context, Sudanese Minister of Justice, Maulana Nasruddin Abdul-Bari, welcomed the visit of ICC Prosecutor, Mrs. Fatou Bensouda, to the country, which will continue until the twenty-first of this month. The minister expressed during his meeting with the delegation of the International Criminal Court today in the ministry’s buildings, his hope that the visit will end
