October 8, 2020 (El-Geneina) The governor of West Darfur state declared Wednesday , Masteri administrative unit a disaster area, following the spread of disease and famine in it.
In a decree seen by Darfur 24, the governor of West Darfur, Mohamed Abdallah Al-Duma, said, “due to the security conditions in the Mastiri area , 80 kilometers south of the city of El Geneina, which
led the citizens not to farm their agricultural land during the season, we declare Masteri a disaster area.
Al-Duma pointed out that because of the emergence of famine cases among large numbers of citizens, the spread of diseases and the scarcity of food and medicine The state government had declared”Misteri a disaster area as of October 6, 2020 AD until further notice.
The governor whose state shares long border with neighboring Chad, called on the Ministry of Health and Humanitarian Aid and the United Nations agencies to take the necessary measures to cooperate with the state government to provide relief to the afflicted.
Misteri area witnessed tribal clashes between the components of the population last June, in which dozens of citizens were killed, and hundreds took refuge in government institutions.
