Leader of the Sudanese Congress Party, Omar Al-Dukair,has  criticized the delay in forming the Constitutional Court after the term of its judges expired last January and the sovereign council refused to renew their contracts.

Al-Dukair said that the Constitutional Court is one of the most important organs of justice, as it is an independent court concerned not only with final ruling on death sentences and any other judicial
rulings, but also with overseeing the constitutionality of laws and legislations and the protection of basic freedoms.

In a statement to SUNA, Al-Dukair called on the Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers to expedite the issuance of the High Judicial Council Law, according to which the Constitutional Court is
formed, with the necessity that the drafting of the High Judicial Council Law be subject to wide consultation with the judicial authorities and legal professionals in order to achieve the demand of the constitutional document.

The head of the Sudanese Congress Party explained that the absence of the Constitutional Court means that public rights and freedoms, and indeed justice itself, are “in the wind”.
