September 16, 2020 (Nyala) Police forces in South Darfur have begun their preparations to take over the tasks of securing and protecting displacement camps in Nyala city ahead of the exit of African Union
and United Nations Mission in Darfur UNAMID.
Director of the State Police, Major General   Ali Hassab al-Rasoul discussed Tuesday, with officials of the UN mission, the latest preparations for the mission to leave the state permanently.

Speaking on radio Nyala, Ali Hassab al-Rasoul said South Darfur police have completed their preparations to take over the task of maintaining security and stability and protecting the displaced people
in the camps, after the mission’s departure which  is scheduled for next December.

Since 2008, UNAMID has been assigned the duties of protecting the displaced people  in Kalma camp, following armed confrontations between the displaced and government forces that the camp witnessed
and led to the killing of more than 10 displaced persons.

Major General Hassab al-Rasoul said that UNAMID police had promised to provide logistical assistance to the Sudanese police  prior to their departure  to enable them to play their role in maintaining security and stability and protecting civilians in the camps.
