September 5, 2020 (Nyala) Security forces in South Darfur have used excessive and unnecessary force against angry crowds in the village of Doma 44 kms North of Nyala city.
The angry protesters have closed the Nyala-El Fasher road since Friday morning, in protest against the killing of a policeman at the hands of thieves who tried to rob one of the shops in Duma market.
One of the residents of Duma, Ismail Issa, told Darfur 24 that government forces, used tear gas and live ammunition to disperse the protesters, stating that the operation resulted in the wounding of 7
people with varying wounds, and they were transferred to health center
to receive first aid.
Addressing travelers at government’s secretariat, governor of South Darfur, Musa Mahdi, said that the government would not allow the violation of state’s sovereign by closing this vital road, and he
promised to open the road during the day, and said that they had sent joint forces, accompanied by a public prosecutor, to open the road.
Once the protesters were dispersed and the road was opened, the buses carrying hundreds of passengers , were able to continue their journey, after two days of the compulsory stop imposed on them by the
area protesters.
