A delegation from the Supreme Committee arrived in the city of Nyala
and held a meeting with the Governor of South Darfur, Musa Mahdi, for
the purpose of consulting on a joint plan to collect unlicensed
firearms in the state.
The reporter of the Central Committee and the Technical Coordinator
for Weapon Collection, Major General Abdul Hadi Abdullah Othman, said
that their visit to South Darfur came within the framework of the
implementation of the national project to collect weapons, which began
in the year 2016 AD, and stated that the project in the previous
stages collected more than 150 thousand weapons in the different
states of Sudan.
During the past month, South Darfur state witnessed armed conflicts
between a number of tribes, in which dozens of citizens were killed.
Abdul Hadi confirmed that the period of voluntary collection has run
out, and the forced collection campaign will begin, which has been
prepared for with large military forces and the provision of modern
devices to detect buried weapons, in addition to providing police dogs
for hidden weapons.
For his part, Governor of South Darfur, Musa Mahdi, said that he had
assured the central delegation that the proliferation of weapons in
the state constitutes a major security concern for citizens of the
states.
