August 10, 2020 (Khartoum) The Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources has demanded that the negotiations for filling and operating the Renaissance Dam be postponed for a week, due to the
recent developments in the talks.
The request submitted by the Sudanese delegation for the postponement of the negotiations for one week, has been related to the developments the negotiations that have been witnessed recently and to the
messages exchanged between the parties involved in the negotiations and the need to expand the internal consultations prior to resumption of the negotiations.
Yasser Abbas, said, in the middle of last week, that Sudan’s continued participation in the negotiations of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, led by the African Union, is conditional on not
linking reaching an agreement on filling and operating on the one hand and reaching a treaty on the waters of the Blue Nile on the other hand.
Prof. Yasser underscored that Sudan would not accept linking the lives of 20 million of its citizens who live on the banks of the Blue Nile to reaching an agreement on the waters of the Blue Nile.
