July 14, 2020 -Darfur negotiators in Juba peace talks, have called on the Sudanese government to conduct an urgent investigation into the attack on Fataburno area in North Darfur state, and bring the perpetrators to justice, saying that such brutal acts are the biggest threat to the ongoing negotiations, and may lead to talks halt and return Darfur to the square of battles and wars.
On Monday morning, armed militias, riding motorcycles and horses, launched an attack on the town of Fataburno, leaving scores of residents dead and injured , in addition to widespread looting of the
citizens’ property.
In a joint communiqué, Darfur movements , taking parts in Juba peace negotiation, have condemned in the strongest possible terms, the bloody attack by armed militias on the defenseless citizens of Fataburno area in North Darfur state.
The statement urged the transitional government to fulfill its role and provide the necessary protection to citizens in Kutum locality and other areas in Darfur who are demanding their legitimate right to
a decent life, security and peace.
The statement stressed that Fataburno incident, indicates that the issue of security arrangements and items related to the joint forces is of vital and fundamental importance in providing security on the ground, and without it, security, stability, peace and the safe return of displaced persons and refugees to their areas and villages cannot be achieved.
