July 10, 2020(Nertati) The media committee of the sit-in of the city of Nertati in central Darfur, has denied the information circulated about a trend to break the sit-in and the return of the citizens to
their homes.
After its meeting with Khartoum delegation last week, the technical committee said that the end of the sit-in was subject to the government’s commitment to meet the citizens’ demands.
Member of the sit-in committee, Suleiman Denga, told Darfur 24, “There is no trend to break the sit-in, and that the situation has notwitnessed any change on the ground, revealing an attack on an orange
farmer in the area on Thursday”.
Residents of Nertati, Central Darfur, have embarked on an open sit-in since the twenty-eighth of last June, protesting over local authorities’ failure to deal with their issues, especially, security,
demanding the dismissal of the administrative of West Jebel Marra locality and the leaders of the security forces.
However, Nertati citizens have accused the local government authorities of siding with the armed gunmen who frequently attack on the residents of the area.
On the ninth day of the sit-in, a government delegation, from Khartoum headed by member of the Sovereign Council, Mohamed Al-Hassan Al-Taishi, arrived in the area, included a number of ministers and
leaders of the police forces, the army, RSF, and the General Intelligence Service.
The deputy commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Lt. Gen. Abd al-Rahim Daqlo, has remained with his forces to supervise the implementation of their tasks, but the sit-in organizers, say that the
forces have still not begun their duties.
