June 23, 2020 (Khartoum) Sudanese Foreign Minister ,Asma Mohamed Abdallah ,revealed that Khartoum was close to reaching an agreement with Washington on compensation for the victims of 1998 American
embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania.
The two bombings, carried out by al-Qaeda, led to the killing of more than 200 people and thousands wounded,however, Sudan faced accusations of providing material and technical support to al-Qaeda and its
leader, Osama bin Laden, for the attacks on American embassies and destroyers during the regime of the deposed Omar al-Bashir, currently held in Kober prison In the capital, Khartoum.
Asmaa confirmed today, Tuesday, that the agreement between Sudan and America on the two embassies bombing file , means that Khartoum has come a long way in removing Sudan from the United States’ list of
states sponsoring terrorism.
Ambassador Fraser , stressed that Washington is ready to remove Sudan from that “list” as part of a bilateral settlement agreement between the two countries, according to which Khartoum pays large compensation to the victims.
The former Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs and former United States Ambassador to South Africa Sendai Fraser, advised the Trump administration and the US Congress, that they should work quickly to take advantage of this golden opportunity to finalize the bilateral settlement agreement with Sudan, which he said would help provide equitable compensation for victims of terrorism in Sudan, as
it promotes the interests of the national security of the United States.
