June 8, 2020- SPLM-North, led by Abdel Aziz Adam Al-Helou, has announced that it will return to the peace negotiations table in Juba to discuss various issues, provided that the issues of secularism and
self-determination are postponed until the end of the negotiation.
However, since the start of the Juba talks in September last year, negotiations bewteen Sudan’s transitional government and SPLM-N Alhilou have not continued smoothly , due to the latter’s insistence
on establishing a secular state and grant the two regions the right to self-determination.
Speaking at a press conference after his meeting with the mediation team, the movement’s chief negotiator, Amaar Amon, said that the struggle movement would return to the negotiation table to discuss the other issues with Sudanese government.
“The Protocols of right to self-determination and secularism will be discussed in the last rounds of negotiations” Amon added.
SPLM-N Alhilou, had stipulated that the government should resolve the issue of separating religion from the state before the other files, along with the right to self-determination, which led to the freezing
of negotiations between the two sides.
Moreover, the movement requested a two-month deadline for consultation and then return to negotiations.
