Sudan has appointed a new defense minister, Sudan’s state news agency SUNA reported.
Major General Yassin Ibrahim Yassin Abdel-Hadi took the oath on Tuesday, as Minister of Defense, in the presence of Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, alongside Chief Judge Maulana Nemat Mohamed Abdullah and Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Hamdouk as well as Secretary General of the Sovereign Council, Staff
General Mohamed El Ghali.
In a press statement, following oath taking at the guesthouse, the Minister of Defense said “We will work to support the cabinet, together will exert effort to maintain delicacy, loyalty, redemption, and inspiration for the glorious martyrs of December Revolution”
Yassin’s has succeeded former defense minster, martyr, Lieutenant General Jamal Omar who suddenly died of heart attack last March, while taking part in peace talks between Sudanese government and armed
struggle movements.
The sixty-two year old army general who is fluent in English, was among the senior officers sacked by former president Omar Albashir.
