May 30, 2020 (Khartoum) The Sudanese foreign ministry on Saturday summoned the Ethiopian charge d’affaires in the capital Khartoum in protest over a cross-border attack by Ethiopian militias on eastern
Sudan.
However, on Saturday Ethiopian armed forces attacked Sudanese troops on the border area of Alfashaga, killing and wounding many people including army officers and civilians.
The attack came “at a time when preparations were underway in Khartoum to hold the second meeting of the high-level joint committee on border issues,” the statement noted.
The government of Sudan underscored that the sustainability and development of cooperation between the two neighboring countries must be based on mutual respect for the sovereignty and independence of both Sudan and Ethiopia.
