May 2, 2020 (Khartoum) A row has raged between the director of the Sudanese Company for Mineral Resources, Mubarak Ardoul, and the undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals, alongside the director of the General Authority for Geological Research in the ministry, over the tasks and powers of the mining company.
Immediately after Ardul was appointed director of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company last week, he issued decisions to transfer 10 of the company’s office managers in ten states to the HQ in Khartoum.
However, after that, the Director of the General Administration of Supervision and Control of Traditional Mining of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, Abdullah Ali Ahmed, issued a decision to transfer the tasks of the directors of the Sudanese company offices in the states to the offices of the General Authority for Geological Research in khartoum.
For his part, Director of the General Administration of Supervision and Control of Traditional Mining, Abdullah Ali Ahmed, issued a decision that supports the decision of the Director of Supervision and Control of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company. But Ardul issued hours after the ministry’s decision, another decision in which he refused to transfer the duties of company directors to managers of the Geological Research Authority of the Ministry of Minerals, and he said in a statement seen by Darfur 24 that the decision of the director of the Supervision and Control Department on Mining is illegal because he does not have the powers to issue such a decision. However, Mubarak Ardul, directed in his decision a formation of smooth handover committees within a time period not exceeding 72 hours. It’s worth noting, that the Ministry of Energy and Mining performs the tasks of supervision, planning, monitoring and follow-up of mining operations in the country through its various technical branches, while the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company plays the role of collecting revenues for Ministry of Finance. Ardul had been appointed director of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company by Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, based on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, Ibrahim Al Badawi.
