Pompeo calls Al-Burhan and informs him of arrangements to remove Sudan from the US terrorism list
On:
April 27, 2020 (Khartoum) Chairman of Sudan ‘s Sovereign Council
Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received a phone call from US
Secretary of State , Mike Pompeo, on Monday.
However, Sovereign Council, spokesman said, Pompeo discussed during his call with Al-Burhan ,the arrangements for removing the name of Sudan from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and American
assistance to Sudan in confronting the Coronavirus pandemic, in
addition to Sudan’s position on the draft resolution expected by the
UN Security Council as well as security cooperation between the two
countries.
Pompeo’s assertions regarding removal of Sudan from the blacklist
come as an extension of the assurances of the US Assistant Secretary
of the Treasury, Marshall Bilingsi, when he met in Khartoum, Sudanese
Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdock, and Foreign Minister Asma Abdullah,
at the beginning of last March.
In a related development, US Assistant Secretary of State for African
Affairs, Tibor Nagy, had said earlier that Washington was no longer in
conflict with the government of Sudan and, considered it a partner,
but removing Sudan’s name from the list of state sponsors of
terrorism was a procedural process.
