March 4, 2020 ( Khartoum) According to a source who spoke to Darfur 24,the issue of appointing states governors put Sudanese peace negotiations in Juba at an exceptional juncture, in light of the armed movements affiliated with the Revolutionary Front maintaining their refusal to take the step before signing the peace agreement, while the government and the forces of freedom and change agreed to assign temporary governors until the peace file was completed.
However, two days ago, the government announced its intention to appoint civilian governors to be commissioned until a peace agreement is reached with the armed movements, according to statements by the spokesperson for the negotiating delegation, Mohamed Hassan al-Taishi.
“The argument on which the government builds its vision is that the matter of assigning civilian governors does not interfere with the conduct of negotiations to logical ends and at the same time serves the stability of the transitional period” added Al-Taishi.
However, leaders of the Revolutionary Front, who spoke to Darfur 24, declared their adherence to the position rejecting the appointment of state governors before reaching a comprehensive peace agreement, considering that any tendency to do so is an abandonment to the talks currently taking place in Juba between the government and the armed struggle movements.
In a related development Two weeks ago, the Sudanese government and the Revolutionary Front agreed to extend the Juba Declaration for the start of negotiation and confidence-building measures, for three weeks. The first week was devoted to discussing the matter of appointing civilian governors to the states, but it passed without reaching understandings.
A leader from the Revolutionary Front, Nimr Abdel Rahman, told Darfur 24 that they had asked the government delegation to adhere to the Juba Declaration charter, which stipulates the postponement of the appointment of governors until a comprehensive peace agreement was reached, that efforts are currently focused on moving forward in negotiations to make it successful.
