February 29, 2020 (Juba) The Sudanese negotiators have failed to reach an agreement on the appointment of state governors, after the Revolutionary Front insisted not to form the states’ government before reaching a peace agreement.
Over the past two weeks, the government delegation and the RFF have been embarked on negotiations on the issue of appointing state governors and forming the Legislative Council, after they had agreed to extend the negotiations to next March.
The spokesman for the government negotiating delegation, Mohamed Hassan Al-Taayishi, said in a press statement on Friday that the deadline that given to the joint committee of the government and the Revolutionary Front to discuss the matter of governors has expired without reaching an agreement to settle the matter of the states’ governors.
Altaishi highlighted of the transitional government’s urgent need to fill the administrative gab in the states with civilian governors, so that they can perform their duties towards the requirements of the daily life of citizens.
Mohamed Hassan, stressed that the government does not talk about appointing governors but rather assigning governors until a final peace agreement is signed.
“The argument on which the government builds its vision is that the matter of assigning civilian governors is not inconsistent with the ongoing negotiations in Juba” added Altaishi.
