Vice-President of the European Commission is to arrive in Sudan on Saturday

February 27, 2020 (Khartoum) European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Joseph Borel Fontelles, will arrive in Sudan on a two-day visit, during which he will announce details of the European Union’s support to the transitional government in Sudan.
The European official will hold meetings with the leaders of Sudan, including General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council and Prime Minister, Dr. Abdullah Hamdouk.
The Vice-President of the European Commission will visit El Fasher, North Darfur, where he will be meeting international organizations, United Nations agencies , internally displaced persons as well as women and youth leaders .
In a statement received by Darfur 24, the head of the European Union Mission in Sudan, Robert Van den Dole, said that the EU High Commissioner would attend the Ministerial Meeting of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in Khartoum.
Robert Van den Dole pointed out that the presence of the European Union commissioner in the meeting is a sign of the strong European block support for the role and efforts undertaken by leaders in the Horn of Africa to achieve peace, security, stability and development.
The head of European Union Mission stated that the European official’s visit to North Darfur will focus on the importance of peace in Sudan, providing humanitarian assistance, emphasizing the importance of international organizations accessing areas of humanitarian needs, as well as visiting and meeting internally displaced people and stressing that justice issues for victims of conflicts should not be ignored and that their case is always given special attention.
Borrell is accompanied by a high-level delegation from all departments of the European Union ,where they will have the opportunity to get acquainted with challenges facing Sudan, consult with the main actors in Sudan, focus on opportunities and hopes for the future, and advance on the path forward for a stable, positive and effective transitional period.
