February 24, 2020 (Khartoum) First Deputy Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, affirmed today, Monday, that the protection of civilians and their rights are among the priorities of the Rapid Support Forces RSF.
Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo said it’s the RSF duty to maintain security and protect human rights.
The Rapid Support Forces RSF are paramilitary forces, which were given greater powers after the glorious December revolution that toppled the regime of ousted President Omar al-Bashir, on the third of last June, after thirty years on power.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the capacity building workshop, on human rights and international humanitarian law, Dagalo described the partnership between RSF and UNAMID as effective in terms of raising capabilities of the RSF , so that they can perform their duties as required.
Mohamed Hamdan said the Rapid Support Forces are working with transparency and clarity to protect the rights of civilians that the international community seeks to promote.
Speaking at a workshop organized by the UNAMID Human Rights section of UNAMID at Coral Hotel in the capital, Khartoum, Daglo urged the United Nations organizations to shift their activities from providing relief to development work, especially in Darfur states, to enable IDPs return to their villages.
For his part, UNAMID joint Special Representative , Jeremy Mamaboulou, referred to UNAMID’s support for the country’s democratic transformation and all the efforts made by the transitional government in the framework of achieving peace.
UNAMID Chief believed that the signing of the constitutional document and the establishment of a human rights commission, would contribute to creating a solid ground for peaceful political transformation, in this historic period that Sudan is going through.
For his part, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Seddik Abdel Aziz, affirmed Sudan’s keenness to continue cooperation and coordination with UNAMID to implement the second stage projects related to peace.
