Auditor General, Taher Abdel Gayoom has announced the establishment of new systems of integrity and a national strategy to fight corruption in the country.
The new body will be established in accordance with the recommendations of the Global Seminar of Integrity and Anti-Corruption which was organized by the National Auditing Bureau on Monday, under the patronage of Sovereign Council member , Aisha Moussa and in partnership with the AFROSAI and the German Agency For International cooperation.
In a related development, the money wasted due to administrative and institutional corruption in Sudan amounted to $ 18 billion, according to statistics prepared by the national voluntary organization known as “Zero Corruption”.
Speaking at a seminar , Auditor General, stressed that the Auditor General’s office bear full responsibility for accounting and monitoring all state sectors to enhance transparency and establish good governance as a role model.
However, Al-Tahir called for the necessity of working on a new agenda in Sudan to achieve a bright future for Africa, through partnerships, raising public awareness and building internal monitoring mechanisms to protect and review the state’s institutions.
Sudan is the 173 least corrupt nation out of 180 countries, according to the 2019 Corruption Perceptions Index reported by Transparency International.
