On Saturday evening, a delegation of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations ,led by Mrs. Karen Bass, Chair of the Sub-Committee for Africa, arrived in El-Fasher, North Darfur.
According to the head of the delegation, the purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the overall situation in Darfur.
In a press statement following her meeting with the government of North Darfur, she said that the aim of the visit was to follow up and evaluate the improvement of the general situation in Darfur, after the fall of Al- Bashir regime. Besides identifying the role played by state government in facilitating the work of humanitarian organizations.
She explained that the delegation will visit Sunday, Zamzam IDP camp ( 15 km south of Al-Fasher), and will also be meeting IDP community leaders.
For his part, the Secretary General of the state government, Mohamed Ibrahim, said the delegation was briefed on the overall security and humanitarian situations in the state.
In a related development, Mr. Ibrahim pointed out to the importance of lifting the sanctions imposed on the country, along with removing the name of Sudan from the U.S. list of countries sponsoring terrorism. However, he affirmed the Sudanese government’s commitment to facilitate the work and access of humanitarian organizations.
