Armed men riding camels and horses attacked, Thursday evening, four villages located in the northern side of Jebel Marra area. They shot indiscriminately in the air, then looted the citizens property. Meanwhile big number of village residents have fled to the neighboring Sortony IDP camp that located 51kms South east of the city of Kabkabiya, North Darfur.
In a related development, a leader affiliated to the General Coordination of IDPs and refugees in Darfur, “Adam Rigal”, told Darfur24 in a telephone conversation that armed militias riding horses and camels, some of them wearing military uniform attacked the villages of Gari , Kagaro , Dadi Togush as well as Roqa.
“The attack resulted in displacement of 150 families, but no one was killed”. Added Adam.
He described the security situation in Darfur region as bad, and said the militias continue to commit various types of atrocities such as killing, rape, robbery and pillage against the defenseless IDPs and civilians in Darfur in general and the villages of Jebel Marra in particular.
“They wander from one place to another, carrying their weapons, while the Sudanese government is neither striving to stop perpetration of such heinous crimes nor taking legal action against the culprits .”Adam further said.
Adam Rigal pointed to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the IDP camps , saying that a number of international organizations have begun registration process of the new arrivals at Saratoni IDP camp.
The member of Darfur IDPs coordination, did not rule out attribution of the latest attack to the ongoing conflict between farmers and herders, demanding the government of prime minister Abdullah Hamdouk to arrest the perpetrators and immediately bring them to justice.
He also demanded the extradition of the wanted ones to international justice, mainly “Omar al-Bashir, Ali Kushayb, Ahmed Harun, and Abd al-Rahim Mohammad Hussein.
