A joint committee comprising government and Revolutionary Front affiliates has paid a visit to the displaced camps in Darfur. However, the purpose of the visit is to select IDP representatives to participate in the ongoing peace negotiations in the city of Juba, South Sudan.
The delegation which headed by Saif Al-Din Essa Abdel-Mawala visited the displaced camps of Abu Shok, Al-Salam and Zamzam in the vicinity of Al-Fasher, alongside the camps of Tawila, Shanqal Tobai as well as Kassab.
In a related development, the committee members held a series of consultative meetings with the executive leaders in the localities, as well as a joint meeting with the state governor, Major General Malik Al-Tayeb Khojali and a number of government officials.
In a statement extended to Darfur24, a native administration leader from Zamzam IDP camp( 15 km south of Al-Fasher) Mayor, Adam Hussein said the committee smoothly selected 15 representatives to participate in the negotiations.
“The negotiating protocol for (Darfur track )stipulated the necessity of participation of the displaced and refugees in the negotiations, and that the process of selecting the participants in the camp was carried out in a smooth manner and in full agreement by all the displaced people”. He added
The transitional government and the Revolutionary Front had earlier agreed to form a joint committee that would leave for the IDP camps in Darfur and refugee camps in neighboring countries to choose their representatives in the negotiations. However the committee will submit a full report to the negotiating parties.
