A run over a displaced woman in the city of El-Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, led to violence and night demonstrations that resulted in the burning of the Civil Registry headquarters and the looting of neighboring houses.
An eyewitness told Darfur 24 that a driver of a Land Cruiser had run over a displaced woman near the Civil Registry headquarters and fled, adding that after the accident, a large number of citizens gathered at the accident site and burned the civil registry headquarters as well as a number of cars that were parked near the premises.
He pointed out that some of the outlaws took advantage of the incident and looted some neighboring shops, causing chaos in the area. The eyewitness added that some demonstrators seized 4 Kalashnikov weapons belonging to the Civil Registry Police.
He said that the regular forces interfered and fired a barrage of bullets to disperse the protesters, at a time when heavy gunfire and fire engines were heard.
Darfur 24 learned that the displaced woman was admitted to El Geneina hospital for treatment.
