Following series of incidents against farmers by armed herders, the Minister of Council of Ministers, Omar Manis, has called for the reinforcement of security deployment and the deployment of regular forces in the agricultural production areas in Darfur, to ensure the security of farmers and protect the harvest as well as reducing the encroachments.
Moreover, during his meeting on Tuesday in Khartoum with North Darfur Acting Governor, Major General Malik al-Tayeb Khojali, Manis said that, rural and urban drinking water should be provided to ensure stability. However, the meeting, which included the Director of the Customs Authority, Bashir Al-Taher Bashir, discussed the current arrangements to reconcile the status of unregistered vehicles in the state. The meeting also stressed the need for good coordination between the Ministry of Finance and the Customs Department.
On the same context, the Governor of North Darfur presented to the Minister a detailed enlightenment on the general situation in the state, as well as the outcomes of the recent visit of Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk to the state , indicating that, the work in the water network of El Fasher and the pipe line is going well. Khojali ,stressed the keenness of the state government and its endeavor to make the emergency plan announced by the Federal Minister of Health a success, so as to roll back malaria and fevers before the end of the year, in good coordination with the Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, the governor reviewed the state government’s plan to maintain security and stability and support the social peace program through holding social tolerance conferences.
On Sunday, farmer, Abul baki Bashir was killed by a bullet fired by armed herdsmen at his village of Tanqara, 18 kilometers east of the town of Shangil Tobai in North Darfur.
On Saturday, gunmen killed farmer, Saddam Abdul-Rasoul Abdul Rahman near his village of Tura, northwest of El-Fasher. A nother farmer, named r “Abkar Adam” was wounded on Thursday by a live bullet in the thigh fired by armed herdsmen near his village of Mertal, in Tawila locality in North Darfur. However, hours earlier, three IDPs had been injured and severely beaten and stabbed by herdsmen on their farms southeast of the village of Bobaye Sigli , in Tawila locality.
