Zalingei, October 21 (Darfur24)

Three people suspected of having cholera have died, while six others are suspected of infection in Karrowli, about 30 kilometers southeast of Zalingei, amid concerns over the spread of the disease and deteriorating health services.

A medical source in Central Darfur told Darfur24 that health workers had transferred the six suspected cases to a local health center. The source warned that limited resources and difficulties transporting patients to Zalingei Hospital could complicate efforts to contain the disease.

The state’s Ministry of Health has deployed health personnel to respond to the cases and prevent further spread, despite resource constraints, the source added.

A medical professional in Zalingei warned of a possible resurgence of cholera in the state, citing shortages of medical supplies and the deteriorating health system.

Medical staff appealed to international organizations for urgent intervention, including establishing isolation centers in remote areas to improve access to treatment and contain the suspected outbreak.

According to figures attributed to the World Health Organization, Sudan recorded more than 124,000 cholera cases and 3,500 deaths during the 2024–2025 outbreak, which affected all 18 states for the first time.
