Beli Serif, October 20 (Darfur24)

Thousands of displaced people in Beli Serif, in Darfur’s East Jebel Marra locality, are facing worsening humanitarian conditions amid severe shortages of food, drinking water, and healthcare, including maternal and child health services. Local volunteers say no humanitarian aid has reached the area.

A volunteer in the town told Darfur24 that more than 3,000 displaced people were living in the open due to a lack of tents and tarpaulins. She also reported that sanitation services were deteriorating in areas hosting displaced families.

She said the town’s only hospital lacked medical equipment, including pregnancy testing kits, blood analysis tools and diagnostic devices. Malaria tests, she added, were being conducted using traditional methods.

The influx of displaced people has placed additional pressure on water supplies, healthcare and education services, while increasing demand for food in local markets.

Another volunteer told Darfur24 that national and international humanitarian organizations had not intervened to provide relief to displaced people and other affected residents.

He said one organization had distributed water equipment some time ago, but no further support had followed.

The volunteer added that some displaced families had begun moving deeper into Jebel Marra or relocating to Tawila in search of food and shelter.
