Tawila, October 20 (Darfur24)
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has provided cash assistance to 108 people with disabilities who fled El Fasher and are living in displacement sites in Tawila and Korma in North Darfur.
People with disabilities in displacement sites face additional challenges accessing humanitarian assistance, including difficulties reaching distribution centers, navigating overcrowded sites and waiting in long queues during aid distributions.
Humanitarian workers say the lack of arrangements tailored to their needs puts them at a disadvantage compared with other displaced people.
An NRC staff member told Darfur24 that the organization provided cash assistance last week to 74 people with disabilities living with their families in Tawila and another 34 in Korma.
He said the distribution followed a recent field assessment conducted by the council among people with disabilities in displacement sites across North Darfur.
The staff member added that people with disabilities continue to face difficulties accessing humanitarian assistance and emergency relief services in the area.
Tawila has become a major destination for displaced people in North Darfur, receiving many people who fled El Fasher last year, as well as continued daily arrivals from rural areas of the city.
