Nyala, October 10 (Darfur24)
Several people, including Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Captain Al-Nadhir Hilal Adam Ibrahim, were killed in armed clashes in Al-Daein, South Darfur State, on Thursday, following a dispute over motorcycle ownership, according to local sources.
A local official told Darfur24 that the initial death toll included Al-Nadhir, Ramzi Al-Nour Hamed Al-Sayed and Malik Aboud Adam Ibrahim. Several others were injured, while authorities continued counting the casualties.
A Native Administration leader said the clashes began over a dispute about ownership of a motorcycle purchased by a local merchant. After others accused the seller of stealing the motorcycle and filed a police report, Al-Nadhir reportedly went with two bodyguards to summon the merchant.
The source said the merchant asked for time to move his goods into a shop, but the disagreement escalated into gunfire. The merchant reportedly shot at Al-Nadhir, prompting one of the commander’s guards to return fire and kill the merchant. The ensuing exchange left additional people dead and injured.
Further violence reportedly broke out during the victims’ burial when the merchant’s relatives attacked members of the commander’s family at the cemetery, causing further casualties.
The local official said the Native Administration and the RSF deployed reinforcements, and the town was relatively calm on Friday.
Al-Nadhir, the son of a local administrator in the Darfur region, was a former Sudanese army officer who joined the RSF after the war began in April 2023. He had led the group’s forces in Al-Daein locality since the army took control of Nyala in October 2023.
Darfur24 could not independently verify the total number of casualties and could not obtain comment from the RSF.
