Drone strikes targeted military positions in the Sudanese cities of El Obeid and Nyala this week, causing explosions, civilian injuries, and damage to nearby facilities, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.
In El Obeid, North Kordofan State, a drone strike on Monday targeted the Olympic Stadium in the Wad Elias neighborhood, north of the city, triggering an explosion at an arms and ammunition depot inside the facility.
Sources told Darfur24 that the stadium, a sports facility converted into a military barracks by the Sudanese Armed Forces since the beginning of the war, is located in a densely populated area near Sheikan Medical College.
The explosion caused varying degrees of injuries among civilians in nearby neighborhoods and partially damaged buildings belonging to Sheikan Medical College, according to the sources.
Some residents living near the stadium also fled to other parts of the city following the explosion.
In Nyala, South Darfur State, residents and local sources reported a separate drone strike on Sunday that targeted a compound used as a headquarters by the Rapid Support Forces.
Eyewitnesses said they heard a drone approaching from the east before a large explosion south of the city’s main market.
Sources told Darfur24 that two missiles were fired, one of which struck a rest area inside the guest house of a former South Darfur governor that had been used by RSF personnel.
The strike reportedly killed and wounded RSF members, although Darfur24 was unable to independently verify the number of casualties.
The attacks come amid an intensification of drone warfare across Sudan, with El Obeid and other parts of North Kordofan witnessing repeated strikes in recent months.
The attacks have increasingly affected areas containing both military and civilian infrastructure, including residential neighborhoods and facilities providing essential services.
Nyala has also experienced repeated drone strikes attributed to the Sudanese army, targeting both RSF positions and civilian areas. One recent attack reportedly killed two people and wounded others, including children.
