Thirteen civilians were killed and 22 others injured on Tuesday in a drone strike targeting the court building in Umm Ruwaba, North Kordofan State, according to a local government official. The attack was believed to have been carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The official told Darfur24 that the strike occurred around noon and directly hit the court building, killing and injuring civilians inside and around the facility.
The Emergency Lawyers group condemned the attack, saying that targeting judicial facilities and civilians constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law, undermines justice institutions, and puts the lives of court staff and civilians at risk.
According to the UN Protection Group, North Kordofan recorded the highest number of drone attacks in Sudan in 2026, with at least 141 attacks reported by July 8. The attacks have disrupted basic services, civilian movement, and access to water and healthcare in and around El Obeid.
The United Nations has warned that continued drone attacks on civilian areas and vital infrastructure threaten lives, drive further displacement, and hinder humanitarian access across Kordofan.
