Damazin, August 18 (Darfur24)

The joint security cell in Blue Nile State said Monday that it had arrested several people, including three foreigners, during a security campaign in Damazin aimed at strengthening security and combating what it described as “negative phenomena.”

The security campaign included arrests in markets and residential neighborhoods, while security personnel also searched citizens’ mobile phones, according to residents.

In a statement, the security cell said the operation targeted individuals suspected of threatening security and stability in Damazin.

It said those arrested included a person accused of cooperating with “the enemy” and allegedly assigned to conduct intelligence activities inside the city, including monitoring and photographing locations and tracking the movements of security forces.

The security cell also said it arrested three foreigners who were in the country illegally, as well as a person accused of promoting narcotic pills. It said legal procedures had been initiated against those detained.

Security forces have been deployed at Damazin’s eastern entrance from the Sennar direction, as well as at entrances linking the city to other states, according to the security cell.

It added that its forces conduct regular security campaigns inside the city of Al-Rusayris.
