More than 30 people were killed and about 30 others injured on Sunday in a drone strike that targeted a court building in the town of Gara al-Zawiya, west of Kabkabiya in North Darfur State, residents told Darfur24.
Residents said two drones, believed to belong to the Sudanese army, flew over the town before firing more than four missiles at the local court in Gara al-Zawiya, about 30 kilometres west of Kabkabiya and roughly 155 kilometres west of El Fasher.
A resident reported that the strike triggered a large explosion, sending a thick plume of smoke rising over the area. Initial casualty reports indicated that more than 30 people were killed and around 30 others wounded.
Another resident said the attack struck the court while proceedings were underway, killing several prominent community figures. He identified the victims as Al-Zein Al-Nour, Ahmed Bakheet, Abdullah Jad Al-Rab, Al-Doum Al-Nadheef and Al-Nour Saeed Jibril.
The source added that dozens of injured people were transferred to Kabkabiya for treatment, while rescue teams and residents continued searching the rubble for missing people and working to determine the final death toll.
Darfur24 could not independently verify the casualty figures, and the Sudanese army had not commented on the incident at the time of publication.
The use of drones has increased significantly since the outbreak of the war in April 2023, with strikes increasingly hitting both military targets and civilian areas across Sudan.
Last May, Volker Türk said drone strikes killed at least 880 civilians between January and April 2026, accounting for more than 80% of all civilian conflict-related deaths recorded during that period.
