El Obeid, July 08 (Darfur24)

The Emergency Lawyers group said on Tuesday that drone attacks in North Kordofan State killed 15 civilians, including five women, in separate incidents in Al-Shaatout and Hamra Al-Sheikh.

In a statement, the group said a drone struck a civilian vehicle on Monday carrying people to a wedding in Al-Shaatout, east of Jabra Al-Sheikh locality. It said 13 civilians, including five women, were killed.

The group said another drone attacked a civilian vehicle transporting water near a water source in Hamra Al-Sheikh at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday. It said two people were killed.

Emergency Lawyers said the repeated targeting of civilian vehicles, water sources and populated areas reflects an escalating pattern of attacks. It said the strikes have spread fear among civilians, restricted movement and made access to water and other basic needs more difficult.

The group said attacks on civilian vehicles and water sources are serious violations of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes.

It called for an independent and urgent investigation into the attacks, accountability for those responsible, an immediate end to attacks on civilians, and unhindered access to water, food and other essential services.
