Nyala, June 26 (Darfur24)

South Darfur’s Ministry of Health on Thursday launched a nutrition campaign targeting more than 46,000 women and children in Nyala, in partnership with humanitarian organizations, as health officials seek to curb rising malnutrition rates and improve maternal and child health.

The campaign comes amid growing cases of malnutrition among children and an increase in health complications affecting pregnant women, according to local medical sources.

The Ministry of Health said the initiative will reach more than 42,000 children under the age of five and over 4,000 pregnant women as part of efforts to improve nutritional status and prevent diseases associated with malnutrition.

According to the ministry’s media office, a health ministry official said the campaign includes the distribution of folic acid supplements, deworming medication, and preventive nutritional supplements for children. He described the initiative as an important step toward supporting the recovery of the state’s health sector.

The official added that health interventions would continue to expand to reach as many beneficiaries as possible and urged families to make use of the services despite the limited resources available.

The campaign is among the first large-scale nutrition interventions launched in South Darfur since several health programmes were suspended because of the security situation and fighting in the region, which severely disrupted healthcare services, particularly for women and children.
