Abu Zaima, June 07 (Darfur24)
At least 11 civilians were killed, and dozens were injured when a drone strike targeted a market in the Abu Zaima area of Hamra al-Sheikh locality in North Kordofan State, the Emergency Lawyers group said on Saturday.
In a statement, the group said the attack came less than 24 hours after similar drone strikes targeted villages and civilian vehicles in the same area.
The group condemned the market attack, describing it as part of a pattern of repeated strikes on civilians, villages, and means of transport that demonstrates a disregard for civilian lives and the principles of international humanitarian law.
“The continued loss of civilian lives in this manner cannot be treated as normal,” the statement said, calling the attacks a dangerous escalation that requires accountability for those responsible.
On Friday, drone strikes targeted the villages of Al-Khashkhasha and Al-Baqriyat near Abu Zaima, killing two people and injuring five others, including three in critical condition.
A separate attack on a civilian vehicle killed two people and injured another. According to local reports, five civilian vehicles have been targeted in the area since May 28.
North Kordofan has witnessed an increase in drone attacks in recent weeks as fighting continues across the Kordofan region, raising growing concerns over civilian casualties and the impact of hostilities on local communities.
