Qaysan, May 28 (Darfur24)

The Civil Society Initiative in Sudan’s Blue Nile region warned on Wednesday of worsening humanitarian conditions among displaced civilians in villages around Qaysan locality, as clashes continued in the Al-Baraka area near Kurmuk.

In March, an alliance of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) captured the border town of Kurmuk near Ethiopia and advanced into several surrounding areas, some of which were later recaptured by the Sudanese army.

In a statement, the Civil Society Initiative said civilians in the Daqla area and neighboring regions of Qaysan locality remain trapped in valleys and remote areas without access to food, medicine, or shelter due to attacks by an armed group allied with the army and led by a commander identified as Zaidan.

The group accused the attacking force of committing serious violations, including the disappearance of more than 70 children, civilian deaths and injuries, and the burning of homes and markets.

The statement called on regional and international humanitarian organizations to urgently assist civilians affected by the fighting.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese army’s 4th Infantry Division announced that it had repelled what it described as a major attack launched by the RSF and SPLM-N forces on the Al-Baraka area in Kurmuk province on the morning of the first day of Eid al-Adha.

The division said its forces seized several combat vehicles, weapons and military equipment, in addition to a number of tanks.

The Blue Nile region has witnessed escalating clashes in recent months between the Sudanese army and the RSF-SPLM-N alliance, leading to widespread displacement and severe disruptions to daily life.
