El Fasher, April 27 (Darfur24)
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced on Sunday the distribution of 1.2 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets across North Darfur, as part of efforts to protect children and families from malaria.
The campaign coincides with World Malaria Day, observed on April 25, and comes as malaria remains one of the most widespread diseases in Sudan.
In a brief statement, UNICEF said the distribution aims to reach vulnerable communities, including those in hard-to-access areas, in cooperation with local partners and with support from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
Health experts consider sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets one of the most effective methods of preventing malaria, as they provide a protective barrier against mosquito bites.
